Gravity Rush Wiki

Hey guys! Like many of you, I'm eagerly awaiting what looks to be one of the best games of the year for the PlayStation Vita. After hours of trolling through the dark, abysmal hole known as the Internet, I have compiled some information about the game, as well as an early psuedo-review after my impressions of it's demo.

The game is about a young girl named Kat, who wakes up on a strange world with no memories whatsoever. Said world is falling apart, and it's up to her to defeat the strange, shadowy beasts that have begun to appear with the aid of her gravity-manipulating cat.

The premise behind the game is that you can control gravity. In essence, after aiming in a certain direction, you can "fall" towards a building and walk up it's side. This gravity manipulation not only brings about new dimensions in the platforming, but also in the combat. Depending on how far away you are from the target, you can aim at the enemy and "fall" at them to deliver a punishing (and disturbingly satisfying) meteoric kick. I have only seen gameplay trailers, but this system works suprisingly well... though the guy who was controlling Kat had no sense whatsoever.

I have also played a demo of this game in my local Gamestop. Though it was essentially still in it's beta stage, the game was complete enough to give me the impression that this is one kick-ass game. The graphical style brings to mind Sly Cooper and XIII, and are well executed on the Vita's graphical capabilities. The game looked absolutely beautiful on the 5" OLED screen.

The controls are satisfying as well. Though the shortened analog sticks take some getting used to, they truly are analog sticks; they were accurate enough that once I got the hang of falling at enemies, I never missed once. They are responsive in combat, and though the dodge mechanic seems a little awkward, Kat is fast enough to avoid most attacks.

Though it is too early to give a solid review, the game feels close enough to completion that it needs one. The gameplay is already rock-solid, the sound is awesome, the graphics are beautiful, and... god, I'm sounding like a fanboy. Anyway, keep this one on your radar. This is a must-have game.
